Our best value pick for a quality bag.

The Kelty Cosmic Ultra 20F is a quality bag at a great intersection of warmth, weight, comfort and cost. Though mummy shaped, it has a slightly wider footbox so there was a reasonable amount of room to move, the zips worked well and the internal pocket was conveniently placed.

Best For: Backpacking, winter camping

Pros: Comfortable, warm, water-resistant and at the lower end of the cost scale.

Cons: We would love to see this with an improved stuff sack that allows the bag to pack down smaller - it was slightly large in our pack compared to others.

Verdict: A dependable choice for most needs at a reasonable price.

A lightweight mummy sleeping bag, this felt as comfortable as it looks.

Along with its mummy design, the Kelty features a convenient pocket placement, 800 fill DriDown, and trapezoidal baffle construction for added warmth. It’s on the affordable side of sleeping bags, and packs some impressive features for a 3-season tent.

The Kelty Cosmic Ultra 20F is high up on the comfort rating, putting its down-polyester mix fill to the test and excelling at that feature. We felt warm all night and there was not much resistance to movement, having wider footbox despite its mummy shape, unlike others of the same type.

A big factor for us was the head support and its close fitting hood really felt comfortable and warm, enclosing the head just enough to trap heat inside. Worth pointing out is also the draft tube for the anti-snag zipper and the zipper worked very smoothly.

We wish there was a smaller stuff sack for a more compact size than the one it came with.

We’ve said this a million times and we’ll say it again: It’s comfortable!

A reliable sleeping bag for colder seasons, and it comes with quality features, from its DriDown fill to its spacious footbox. As long as the larger than average size doesn’t bother you much, you’ll be off to a good night’s rest.
